The "fourth wall break" sounded rather familiar, because it's similar with trains. When something went wrong the "secret police" would often quickly chase off anyone not on their payroll (yes, including emergency responders), so information and photos are SCARCE. Some stuff has come to light post-1990, but especially eastern Germany saw a lot of things lost as the Stasi (their secret police) spent their last hours feverishly shredding documents :|

That sort of thing makes it hard to nail down information, with very VERY few exceptions.

As for plane crashes, East Germany at least would ALWAYS blame "pilot error" and claim that the plane was in pristine condition.
