Honestly I don't know, I assume with the pin that was meant to be in place it couldn't have slipped off. On car-trailers with a normal ball-head you got a steel cable loop that goes on the car's trailer-hook, so you can't leave the trailer behind just because it lifts up/wasn't attached properly, you'd drag it along (and it would brake)
